The updated Conformity Assessment Programme (CAP) for goods being exported to Saudi Arabia is now in full force and running under the authority of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) in Saudi. The Programme aims to guarantee that imported goods conform to relevant Saudi, Gulf or International Standards.
The original SASO ICCP Programme was phased out according to the Council of Ministers Decree No.213 and an updated Conformity Assessment Programme has been approved as a suitable replacement in line with the Council of Ministers Decree No. 6386.
The updated Conformity Assessment Programme requires that a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) should accompany all consignments of imported goods – except for those prohibited or exempted – certifying their conformity to the established standard (technical regulations).
The CoC should confirm to Saudi authorities that the goods and company in question have been subjected to regular examination under the supervision of a competent control agency in the country of origin. Consignments without a valid CoC will be rejected at their Saudi destination.
SGS has been fully authorised by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Saudi Arabia to issue Certificates of Conformity under this Programme. SGS is assisting many Exporters who ship to Saudi Arabia with the issue of CoCs to ensure compliance with this Programme. SGS understand Exporters needs and aims to provide an informative and efficient service.
The Objectives
In compliance with Saudi Arabian and Islamic Law, the objective of this Programme is:
- To protect consumer health and safety and the environment.
- To protect the national industry from the use of deceptive trade practices and unfair competition.
- To prevent the importation of substandard, unsafe or counterfeit goods.
