CBI Comments on Business Finance Green Paper

The CBI today commented on the Government Green Paper, Financing a Private Sector Recovery. Matthew Fell, CBI Director for Company Affairs, said:
"The Government rightly recognises that the issue is not just whether banks are deciding to lend, but whether the financial system has the capability and capacity to help finance economic recovery.
"It is right to acknowledge that in order to lend, banks need certainty about future regulations, so that they can make decisions with confidence.
"We are also pleased that the paper is broad in scope, looking at a wide range of financing options from bank lending to equity finance.
"However, we think the Government should also recognise that financing major infrastructure projects is important and must be addressed as a priority."
